It’s Monday morning once again and can you hear that…..? That is the sound of a nation groaning to the sound of their alarm clocks ringing 7.00am on this beautiful day. So many people are unhappy with their jobs, that they find no alternative but to quit their empoyment in favour of self employment, something I myself made the jump to just over 4 years ago.
To make the jump to self employed, you must make sure you are aware of all the things that could indeed be required of you and make plans for them in the short and long term.
1) Do you have enough savings to carry you over a period if you don’t make any money?
The one thing I always told myself, was that if I was t work for myself, I would have 6 months living expenses saved as a just in case. By the time I came to leave my job, this was only at 2 months living expenses, but I made it work and pushed through.
2) You will work harder and longer than ever before
In my first month of sales for Kaizen Print, I made 70-100 calls a day, tring to build up a wealth of contacts who might need print in the immediate fututre and longer term. Unfortuantely print is not one of those instant gratification impulse buys we all wish it was and people really only return contact when they need something. However I was able to create a solid base of customers to begin with. It grew from there.
3) Marketing is key
Even to this day, we distribute flyers (http://kaizenprint.co.uk/product/flyer-printing) to almost every business in Belfast City Centre, almost on a daily occurence. By doing so ensures our business and offers are kept in the public eye, even when we cant be. We always try to follow up with sales calls and html newsletters that really catch the attention
4) Customer Service is number 1
After quality of printed products, we pride our customer service skills as the number 1 tool any business can have in increase, growing and maintaing sales. You will find us meeting the tighest of deadlines, only for a roll up banner to travel half way round the world, or indeed a set of business cards that are needed in an hour for a very special meeting. These things are important to your business and because of that, they are important to ours also.
